چکیده

The otoliths described in this study are from the late Pliensbachian of Buttenheim clay pit near Bamberg, Franconia, northern Bavaria, and represent one earliest teleost otolith assemblages known so far. A total 351 have been recovered, many which well-preserved sizes that indicate they originated adult specimens can be considered morphologically mature. assemblage contains seven species, four them stem teleosts genus Leptolepis three enigmatic otolith-based Archaeotolithus , cannot attributed to a firm systematic position. We describe species as new: buttenheimensis sp. nov. steberae doppelsteini In addition, we review 49 original material Schröder’s (1956) publication were uncovered at University Erlangen. Pterodactylus scolopaciceps Meyer, 1860 (Pterosauria, Pterodactyloidea) from the Upper Jurassic of Bavaria, Germany: The Problem of Cryptic Pterosaur Taxa in Early Ontogeny

The taxonomy of the Late Jurassic pterodactyloid pterosaur Pterodactylus scolopaciceps Meyer, 1860 from the Solnhofen Limestone Formation of Bavaria, Germany is reviewed. Its nomenclatural history is long and complex, having been synonymised with both P. kochi (Wagner, 1837), and P. antiquus (Sömmerring, 1812). The majority of pterosaur species from the Solnhofen Limestone, including P. scolopa...

Temporal patterns in disparity and diversity of the Jurassic ammonoids of southern Germany

Morphology represents an important tool in descriptive and analytical biology and particularly in palaeontology. Whereas early studies concentrated on qualitative description of morphological characters, there was a transition in the early 20th century leading to analytical approaches with quantitative elements (Thompson 1917; see also Bookstein 1998). This new exploratory focus called morphome...
